ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Indian Cricket Team Announcement Expected.

Here is a look at the possible squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The team is likely to be picked by September 2022 end. Dinesh Karthik is making a strong case for himself as a finisher.

Here is a look at the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be played in Australia in November and December 2022. The Indian Cricket Team for the World Cup will be announced considering the performance of the players from the TATA IPL 2022 and the other international matches. As this is an ICC event, only a set of 15 players have to be announced. The BCCI will announce in a while. Here is a look at the probable Indian Cricket Team:

1) Rohit Sharma (Captain) will Lead the Indian Team in ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

Captain Rohit Sharma will be leading the team from the front. He has been good with the bat in the recent international games. Just the mere presence of Rohit Sharma scares the opposition. His game against the quick short-balls on the bouncy Australian pitches will be very handy. He has been leading the team very well. After getting appointed as a full-time captain, Rohit has won every series. His tactical genius has helped Mumbai win the IPL 5 times. Hopefully, he will get the job done for the Mumbai Indians.

This will be the first assignment of Rohit Sharma as the full-time captain of the Indian Cricket Team. IMG SRC: TOI.

2) KL Rahul will Open the Batting for Indian Cricket Team in ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

When KL plays, he is the most flawless player in the game. His game against the swinging bowlers has improved too. KL has struggled against the left-arm pacers but he has worked on dealing with that too. Rahul is doing a good job as the leader of the Lucknow Super Giants. His experience will also add a lot of value. If required he can also keep wickets for the team.

3) Virat Kohli:

There was poor speculation that with the rise of Shreyas Iyer, the place of Virat Kohli in the Indian T20 team was under threat. You cannot easily take away credit from the best batter of India. In the game against Pakistan in the World Cup last year, Virat was the lone warrior. His game in important matches has been exceptional. His performances in 2014 and 2016 cannot be forgotten. He was single-handedly winning games for India. His average is 51.5 at a strike rate of 138.

4) Suryakumar Yadav will be India’s Number 4 at ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

Surya has been the number 4 for the Indian T20I team in recent times. SKY has played very mature knocks and has shown a good display of his skills. Although he made his debut for India in 2021, he has a good experience of playing in the IPL. He is called the “Indian De Villiers” by Harbhajan Singh, and he justifies that to the fullest. His game against spin is elite. In recent times, Surya has worked on his reverse sweep and his ramp shots. Surya averages 39 at a strike rate of 165.

5) Rishabh Pant will be India’s wicket-keeper at ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

Rishabh Rajendra Pant is a phenomenon that has struck the Indian cricket team in recent years. It is very difficult to not remember Rishabh’s name when you make a list of Indian match-winners. His performance in T20Is is very mediocre but his skill speaks volumes of the talent he has. He has a strike 140 at an average of 25.6. The numbers don’t speak well but this boy from Delhi has a lot to offer.

6) Hardik Pandya:

Hardik Pandya has made an amazing comeback to the cricketing circuit as the leader of the Gujarat Titans. His initial impression is amazing. This dude from Baroda has battled several injuries to keep hustling and fulfill his dream. Credit to the national cricket academy that has spared so many of its resources for the rehabilitation of Hardik Pandya. Pandya has started batting up the order which gives a word of confidence to the team. He is also bowling his full quota of 4 overs at a pace of 135 to 140 kmph. This works well and Hardik will be India’s top finisher.

7) Ravindra Jadeja will be the Bowling All-Rounder for ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

Ravindra Jadeja is the first name that a selector writes down on paper when making a team for any format at the ICC level. Ravindra Jadeja after his comeback to the team in 2018 has become a different gravy. Jadeja keeps the over-rate in check as he bowls his overs in the span of 2 to 3 minutes. He can also be used as a floater to accelerate the innings or to hold the innings together. Jadeja averages 27.6 with the bowl. He has a lot of experience and this gives him the added dimension.

8) Deepak Chahar:

Deepak Chahar is being missed by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Their campaign has been rattled due to the absence of Deepak. When fit, Deepak can be the first-choice fast-bowling all-rounder for the Indian Cricket Team. Deepak is also the world record-holder for the best spell in a T20I. Chahar has proven his mettle with the bat in crucial situations. He averages an amazing 22.26 with the ball. He consistently can bowl at 135 to 138 clicks.

9) Yuzvendra Chahal will be India’s top spinner at ICC T20 World Cup 2022:

Yuzi was and will be India’s top leg-spinner. It was unfortunate that the selectors chose Rahul Chahar over him at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. But mistakes are made to be learned from. Yuzvendra Chahal also happens to be India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. The grounds in Australia are very big and leg spinners will have a treat while bowling on wickets that are quick and offer drift. Chahal averages 25 with the ball and has picked 68 wickets.

10) Jasprit Bumrah:

Bumrah will certainly prove that class is permanent. IMG SRC: TOI.

Jasprit Bumrah is the leading bowler for T20s across the globe. His performance at IPL 2022 in the initial stage is not the very best but that doesn’t take away the class he has. Jasprit has an amazing skill set. He has a bag full of variations. He has a well-disguised slower ball, a laser-guided yorker, and a well-placed knuckleball as well. His slower bouncer is worth watching. Bumrah has been leading the Indian pace attack since 2017 and it is about time that this champion wins the cup for the team.

11) Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a comeback of his own. After being dropped out of the squad and making a comeback against Sri Lanka in the Sri Lanka tour of India 2022. He has exceptional skills with the ball in hand in the powerplay. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar will be a deadly combination that every opening pair will fear. Both the bowlers have a similar skill set but Bhuvneshwar has a good nip-backer. Bhuvi has been with the Indian team since 2014. The experience that he brings is unmatched. His death-bowling is also amazing. Bhuvneshwar averages 25.17.

Bench:

  • 12) Shreyas Iyer. (Backup for number 4 if things don’t go according to plan)
  • 13) T Natarajan/ Khaleel Ahmed/Umesh Yadav. (Left-arm pacer and the angle that he brings in)
  • 14) Axar Patel/Kuldeep Yadav. (Back-up spin option)
  • 15) Dinesh Karthik. (Experienced, backup finisher)

Honorable Mention:

  • Ishan Kishan
  • Venkatesh Iyer
  • Mohammad Siraj
  • Mohammad Shami.
