ICC Men’s Player Rankings: King Kohli once again in Test top 10 category while batting against South Africa: Rise in latest ICC men’s player rankings update. Indian batsman Virat Kohli is back in the top ten of the MRF Tires ICC Player Rankings in the new year, rising to ninth position after the latest update on Wednesday.
Kohli’s innings of 38 and 76 in India’s loss to South Africa were enough for the 35-year-old to move up four places (761) to be ranked as India’s top batsman in the list.
On the other hand, Proteas legend Dean Elgar will likely finish as a top-20 batsman after his performance in the first Test in Centurion, moving up 19 places to 17th (680) ahead of his final Test.
Elgar scored an innings-winning 185 against the tourists, helping the Proteas gain 12 World Test Championship points.
In Australia, their Boxing Day Test match with Pakistan saw minor changes on the batting front, with the most notable change being the flurry of Mitchell Marsh, who moved up 16 places to 52nd (504).
Mohammad Rizwan jumped four places after his aggressive innings, while Travis Head retained his top 10 position with a rating of 754 despite a quiet performance in the Boxing Day Test and a drop of four places.
New Zealand’s Kane Williamson still has a slight lead (864) over Joe Root (859), while Australia’s Steve Smith (820) is in third place during the Sydney Test starting on Wednesday.
On the Test bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah has re-entered the rankings following his return to Test cricket, moving up to fifth (767), just behind compatriot Ravindra Jadeja (774).
Marco Jensen’s efforts saw him move up three places to 22nd (618), although the all-rounder also jumped five places to 8th in the rankings, taking his career-best rating to 268.
In the Australia/Pakistan series, newcomer Aamer Jamal has made a strong impression in the first series and has moved up 17 places to 57th in the bowling rankings.
Tej claimed 3/64 and 2/74, also scored important runs and moved up 34 places to 68th in the all-rounder rankings. There were also changes in the T20I player rankings, with Bangladesh hosting New Zealand and the UAE hosting Bangladesh.
Mitch Santner’s four wickets at Mount Maunganui grabbed the biggest headlines in the shortest format, moving him up eight places to eighth (657). Shoriful Islam’s excellent week saw him jump 32 places, with Mustafizur Rahman also moving up five places to 22nd (605).
There was a buzz in Sharjah as Afghanistan beat Emirates 2-1 in the three-match series and players from both sides were enjoying the highs and lows. Afghanistan batsman Ibrahim Zadran led the way with the bat and jumped 14 places to 33rd after his half-century during the week.
