IND vs AUS: The Indian Test captain, Rohit Sharma, recently became a father for the second time as he and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, were blessed with a baby boy. The Indian skipper will hence not be available for the first test, which will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Thus Jasprit Bumrah takes up the role for the opening match of the series.

Reports claim that the Indian skipper will join the Indian team in Perth on November 24, midway through the first test at Perth. It was not sure when he arrived in Perth, but the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has now officially revealed his arrival Down Under.

The Indian captain is set to be available for the second Test match of the series in Adelaide, which will be a day/night affair with the Pink Ball. The Test match will kickstart on December 6, and Sharma will play a two-day day/night match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra from November 30.

Sharma hasn’t been in good form with the bat in the three-match home Test series against New Zealand and the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh. Moreover, the team under him suffered a 3-0 disastrous defeat against New Zealand at home, which was the first Test series loss for India since 2012 and also the first whitewash suffered at home in a Test series since Team India started playing Test cricket.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 features five Test matches between India and Australia, starting November 22, 2024, in Perth. Other matches are scheduled in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, with the final Test concluding on January 7, 2025. This series is crucial for WTC standings.
