IND vs AUS: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 will kickstart on the 22nd of November at the Optus Stadium. India’s captain for the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah, attended the pre-match press conference ahead of the first Test and answered some questions. This will be Bumrah’s second Test match as the captain of the team.
Rohit Sharma is set to miss the first test after the birth of his second child. He will be back in the team for the second Test match, which is a day/night test match with the Pink Ball in Adelaide. One reporter asked Bumrah about his feelings about captaining the Indian Test team being a medium-fast bowler. Bumrah smiled and responded that he should rather call him a fast bowler given that he bowls 150 kmph.
Question – How does it feel to captain India as a medium-pace all-rounder?
Jasprit Bumrah – Yaar, I can bowl 150kmph, at least you say fast bowler captain (laughs).
Jasprit Bumrah will be the captain of India in the first Test in Perth
Bumrah has always expressed his feelings about leading the Indian team. Bumrah has prior red-ball experience, having led India in the Edgbaston test in 2022. Bumrah also captained the Indian T20I team in the T20 series in Ireland. The fast bowler has given examples of Kapil Dev and Pat Cummins for leading the national team while being the fast bowler of the side.
Bumrah has to play a huge role with the ball as well if India needs to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy yet again. India has won the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophies. However, they are coming to this series on the back of a 3-0 whitewash suffered at home against New Zealand.
This was their first Test series loss at home since 2012 and the first Test series whitewash suffered at home since the time they started playing Test cricket. Now, they need to win at least four Test matches in Australia if they need to qualify for the WTC final.
However, Bumrah also went all praises for Virat Kohli, as he termed him a true legend, having made his debut under the veteran cricketer. Kohli is always a true inspiration and a leader in the team, remarked Bumrah. While he also posed how devoted he is towards Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
