IND vs AUS: Run chases have been the most dominant way India has won most of their games, be it any format of the game; however, Australia is not one of the best hunting grounds in the world for the purpose.
India will be chasing against the Aussies at the MCG on the final day of the Boxing Day test to extend their lead to 2-1 and look to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the fourth consecutive time.
The Aussies could secure a 105-run lead in the first innings, as Indian lower-order batters Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar rescued India from a tragic follow-on, and Reddy, with his maiden ton, gave India a respected total in the first innings.
Though the Aussies struggled due to Bumrah and Siraj’s joint efforts with the ball, the Aussies were reduced to 91/6, while Labuschagne and Cummins brought back some consolidation; later, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland played nearly 100 balls and scored 50+ runs for the final wicket as the Aussies have posed a lead of 333 runs already at the end of Day 4.
India has only been able to chase only 3 targets successfully in Australia, as they have won only on 3 occasions while losing 16 times. India’s most commendable win came in Brisbane back in 2021, when Rishabh Pant with the bat helped India chase a huge 328 runs, which remains India’s highest red ball run chase on Australian soil.
