The Border Gavaskar Trophy and the New Zealand Tour of India are about to get started. The BCCI announced the Indian cricket team for two of the upcoming series. The squads were announced for the New Zealand tour of India in 2023, and for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2023. The second squad has been announced only for the first two test matches. Border Gavaskar Trophy games will begin on the 9th of February. And the New Zealand tour of India will begin on the 18th of January. Here is an in-depth look at the squads:

Team India Announced ODI and T20I Squads

  1. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul are not a part of the T20 setup. No clarity has been given, if they are dropped, rested or out of favor of selection due to their so-called “lower strike rates”. 
  1. KS Bharat has got a call-up for the ODIs in absence of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. KL Rahul hasn’t been picked due to his wedding commitments.  
  1. The pacers picked are Mohd. Siraj, Mohd. Shami, Umran Malik, and Shardul Thakur. 
  1. Prithvi Shaw has been picked after his splendid 379 against Assam. He will be back for the T20 format only.  
  1. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sanju Samson are not picked due to their rehabilitation programs.

  1. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have been rewarded for their white-ball performances. They have been picked in the absence of Rishabh Pant to play attacking cricket.  
  1. Jaydev Unadkat has been backed and picked for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 after making a comeback to international cricket after 12 years.  
  1. Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t been picked.  
  1. Ravindra Jadeja has made a comeback in the Border Gavaskar Trophy post his knee surgery.
  1. KS Bharat is expected to play ahead of Ishan Kishan as he has been an integral part of the team for a very long time.  
  1. Axar, Jaddu, and Ashwin are expected to be the first-choice spinners due to their batting abilities. 
  1. Only 3 pacers have been picked.
