Bangladesh announces Squad and a new captain to take charge till Asia Cup and T20 World Cup: Bangladesh this month announced a 17-member strong squad for the Asia Cup starting on August 27, along with their captain for the T20 World Cup, slated for later this year, as well as the tournament.

Bangladesh has appointed Shakib Al Hasan as the captain of the team for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. He has been named captain till the T20 World Cup later this year. His first match in his new term as captain will start with the Asia Cup starting on August 27.

Nurul Hasan was named captain for the recent tour of Zimbabwe after Mahmud Ullah was dropped as captain due to a lack of results. However, Shakib Al Hasan – who has already been named Test captain after Mominul Haque stepped down – is set to take over the reins of the team for the upcoming Asia Cup, a tri-series in New Zealand that also includes Pakistan and the T20 World Cup.

Liton Das was the most notable omission in Bangladesh’s squad as an injury ruled him out of the tournament. But the return of key players including skipper Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Ebadat Hossain, and Mohammad Saifuddin will give a boost to the team.

Saifuddin has returned to the Bangladesh team after almost 10 months of absence. He last played for the Tigers in the T20 World Cup last year, where his tournament was cut short due to a back injury. Rahman, who last featured for Bangladesh in the shortest format in 2019, will find a place in the lineup even in adverse conditions.

Bangladesh will face Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in Group B of the Asia Cup. Their campaign begins on 30 August with the first match against Afghanistan against the Islanders on 1 September.
