AUS vs IND: Australian opener David Warner recently stated his desire to come out of retirement and play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This happened after Steve Smith decided to move down to number four following an injury to Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. Players such as Josh Inglis, Sam Konstas, Marcus Harris, and Cameron Bancroft are other eligible openers for the Australian side.
In an interview with News Corp., Warner said that he is always available and ready to pick his bat up again if the selectors think of him as an option. He added that he is just a phone away from playing against India, who will be touring Australia for the five-match Test series.
Hearing this, the fans got too excited, and social media went mad with posts related to David Warner and his comeback. All things seemed to be good, but his wife denied all the plans that fans were anticipating and linked to the opener’s comeback.
Candice Warner, the wife of Australian cricketer David Warner, revealed to Fox Sports that her husband won’t return to international cricket, even though he’s still capable of performing at that level.
She stated, “He’s very passionate about playing for Australia, and I think if George Bailey, the selector, or Andrew McDonald, the coach, picked up the phone and said ‘we need you’, he would jump at it. And of course we would support him.”
“But no, it’s definitely not going to happen.”
After these statements, the comeback of the Australian bull in international cricket seems too far.
Australian head coach Andrew McDonald extends his contract till 2027
Australia Cricket has announced the contract extension of the current Australian head coach, Andrew McDonald, till 2027. This deal was followed by various results in world cricket that went in the favor of team Australia. As of now, Australia is ranked as the No. 1 Test team and No. 2 in ODI and T20 cricket.
Ever since Andrew McDonald took charge as the Aussie head coach, the Australians went on to secure their maiden title in the World Test Championship, followed by the World Cup in India in 2023, and also retained the ashes successfully.
The upcoming tournaments under the guidance of Andrew McDonald are the World Test Championship cycle from 2025-2027, the one-day Cricket World Cup in 2027, and the T20 World Cup in 2026. The contract will see 13 months of Test cricket, including battles against England and India in 2026 and 2027.
