Jaspreet Bumrah caused absolute havoc in the first ODI, returning with figures of 6/19 in an exceptional spell of fast bowling that tore through England’s entire batting line-up at The Oval. In doing so, Bumrah broke the record for best bowling in ODIs by an Indian bowler in England, breaking Kuldeep Yadav’s record of 6/25 against England at Nottingham in 2018.

Jaspreet Bumrah also recorded the third-best figures by an Indian bowler in ODIs, now behind only Stuart Binny (6/4) and Anil Kumble (6/12). He joined the illustrious list of 10 Indian bowlers to take six wickets in an innings in ODIs.

Winning the toss, India made the best of the conditions by opting to bowl first and Jasprit Bumrah made the first breakthrough with a double-wicket maiden in the second over, dismissing Jason Roy and Joe Root for zero.

Then he dismissed the dangerous Jonny Bairstow and scalped Liam Livingstone with a peach of a delivery. And then cleaned up the tail with to finish with magical figures of 7.2-3-19-6.

England was all out for 110, with their lowest total in the 50-over format against India. Four of England’s leading six moved back without troubling the scorers. India’s attack led by Bumrah was on fire with Shami picking up three wickets and Krishna selecting the remaining one. Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 76 off 58 balls completed the formalities as India won by 10 wickets.
