South Africa’s left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper have announced his retirement on Thursday from Test cricket with immediate impact. The statement comes after the Proteas’ first Test contest against India in Centurion, where the visitors won by 113 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

According to Cricket South Africa (CSA), 29-year-old De Kock stated his intentions to spend more time with his growing family on time and the reason for his early retirement. “He and his wife, Sasha, are expecting the birth of their first child in the coming days,” the CSA statement said.

Quinton de Kock said

This is not a judgment I have reached very easily. I spent a lot of time thinking about what my future holds and what should come first in my life as Sasha and I are about to adopt our first child in this world and look forward to raising our family beyond that.

My family is everything to me and I want to have time and space to be with them in this new and exciting chapter of our lives

Quinton de Kock wicketkeeper-batsman made his Proteas Test debut against Australia in 2014. In 54 matches, he collected 3300 runs with a high score of 141 not-out, at an average of 38.82 and strike rate of 70.93. He also named his six centuries and 22 half-centuries.
