Let us now take a look at the incredible run figures till date, which also includes Gill’s name. The 23-year-old’s phenomenal knock got him into the record books as the youngest player to score a double hundred in the history of men’s ODIs.

Shubman Gill’s 208 is tied for the ninth-highest individual score in a men’s one-day international. And he has become one of only eight players in the list of historical runs to reach such heights in this format. Only India captain Rohit Sharma has reached a double century more than once in ODIs (doing so three times). And five of the eight players who have scored 200 or more runs in an ODI are Indian.

No Indian player has scored more runs in ODIs against New Zealand than Gill’s effort. His 208 remains Gill’s highest score across all formats for India in his career, along with his fourth century—three in ODIs and one in Tests. Gill’s scoring accelerated throughout the innings, and he went from 150 to 200 in just 23 balls, hitting three consecutive sixes to go past his double century.

In the process of scoring 208 runs, Gill also reached 1,000 career ODI runs for India. He achieved the career feat in just 19 matches, fewer than any previous Indian to do so. In the history of the game, only Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan reached 1000 runs in fewer match (18).
