As the pot boils red hot for the upcoming IPL 2023 Auction, there is some important news regarding Shardul Thakur. Earlier many media houses reported that Shardul Thakur, who was picked by the Delhi Capitals for 11+ crores in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction might be sacked this season, the latest update is that he has been traded to the Kolkata Knight Riders. But what did Delhi get in return? And will Shardul fit in the current KKR setup? Here is an in-depth look at the same:

Shardul Thakur traded from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders:

Shardul Thakur, the pace bowling all-rounder of the Indian national team and the player who rose to fame after his Gabba antiques, might play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming season. The Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Capitals have signed an all-cash deal for Shardul Thakur. Delhi paid 10.75 crores for the Indian national.

Thakur had a mediocre season in the IPL 2022 season. He picked up 15 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 9.79. His economy was the biggest point of concern. The player has a set standard, and it was his performance that did not match his standard. Shardul is a part of the Indian squad that has been picked for the New Zealand series, which begins on November 18.

Delhi Capitals Get 10.75 Crore in Return:

It was an “all-cash” deal. This means that the Delhi Capitals did not receive any players in exchange for Shardul, but instead received 10.75 crores from the Kolkata Knight Riders. This does give us a sign that the Delhi Capitals are looking to shop for the big players in the upcoming auction. A pool of 10.75 crores will make a significant difference because money is plentiful this time of year, but players for sale are scarce.

On the other hand, Shardul will feel at home in the Kolkata camp. He has his Mumbai teammates Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer on the team.

Retention Window Closes on 15th November:

The retention and trading window closes on November 15 at 5 p.m. The Kolkata Knight Riders are one team that has been relatively active in making trades. Also, trades add spice to the auction, as the players who are traded could have even come to the auction! All the franchises are requested by the BCCI to submit their names by 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Star Sports, the official broadcaster, will host a show to formally announce this retention and release.
