With each season of the Indian Premier League breaking new broadcasting records, the league’s standard has been rising year after year. IPL 2023 will also be one such high-standard event. To set the tempo for IPL 2023, the IPL 2023 Mini-Auction will take place next month. And before the auction, the teams are requested to send through their list of players that they intend to retain and release. Here is a look at the same:
IPL 2023 Mini Auction Details:
Venue: Kochi (confirmed)
Date: 23rd December 2022.
Last Day of Squad Submission: 15th November 2022.
Auction Purse: 95 Crore Per Team.
There are no specific retention and release rules as such. But all the teams are requested to submit their final squads by the 15th of November. This gives ample time for all the franchises to know which players will be available at the auction and then they can frame their strategies very well by the next month.
Mumbai Indians Might Release Kieron Pollard:
Kieron Pollard, the giant from the Windies who has been a part of the men in blue and gold since the very beginning is expected to be released by the Mumbai Indians. He has been a true asset to the team all these years. But since the last two years, Polly has looked a bit off-color. On his day, Pollard can win you games single-handedly but he has been struggling to perform up to his potential. Keeping aside the emotions and the values attached, the Mumbai management is expected to make this big call. This will help the Mumbai Indians liquidate an additional 6 Crore Rupees.
Delhi Capitals Likely To Release Shardul Thakur:
The Delhi Capitals will release Shardul Thakur who was bought for a whopping 10.75 Crore Indian Rupees. Shardul played all the games for the Capitals last season but if asked whether he was worth the money, the answer is a big no! Releasing Shardul will help the Delhi Capitals to vacate a spot for an all-rounder.
They also plan to release Tim Siefert which will help them to vacate a spot for an overseas player. This does give us a hint that Delhi might go all in for “Cameron Green”. KS Bharat and Ashwin Hebbar are also expected to be released. Sarfaraz Khan might also be released as his stocks have risen after helping Mumbai to lift the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cup. IPL 2023 will be a fun roller-coaster ride!
