Indian women’s 50kg freestyle wrestler Vinesh Phogat claims history as she emerges as the first Indian female wrestler to enter the Olympic finals. India has been one of the most promising nations that have majorly focused on a sport like wrestling.

Often people from the Indian state of Haryana have been into the sport, as it has been frequently referred to as India’s sports capital owing to its several Olympic medals. One among the Phogat sisters, who are sisters of famous wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat and daughter of Mahavir Singh Phogat, Vinesh’s father has referred to Vinesh as the wrestler who has the caliber to bring home an Olympic medal.

Despite being under the radar for controversies during the protest from Indian wrestlers, she was also in the buzz for being in the controversy with Union minister Brij Bhusan; she made it to the Olympics for the third time in her career.

After India missed many bronze medals very narrowly, like Manu Bhaker, the two bronze medal winner missed her treble in the 25-meter air pistol. Also, India’s best badminton campaigner, Lakshya Sen, saw disappointment in the last two games of the men’s singles, and PV Sindhu, India’s two-time Olympic medalist, faced an early exit this time.

Now, Vinesh reportedly secured her final spot with her very famous victory over the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, Japanese champion wrestler, Yui Susaki. She defeated an almost invincible opponent, as her records said so.
