After Neeraj Chopra’s amazing throw at the Paris Olympics qualifications, India’s fighter girl Vinesh Phogat defeats Olympic gold medalist and Ukrainian wrestler Livach

India has not had the best Olympic campaign this time, especially after their great run in the Tokyo Olympics four years ago. The Indian contingent of 119 members had won a record 7 medals, which also included Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal in the javelin throw events.

This time around as well, Manu Bhaker has solely taken charge and emerged as Independent India’s only player to have ever won multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics. Bhaker with two bronze medals has added to India’s medal tally, with Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale all emerging medal winners in shooting at the Paris Olympics.

Since then, India awaits their fourth medal as several highly anticipated athletes have failed in the meantime. Even the likes of two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and star Indian boxers Lovlina and Nikhat Zareen have failed to provide medals under the Indian flag.

India would now pin their main hopes on the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and reigning World Champion, Neeraj Chopra. It seems only a single try is enough for the Champ, as he took his first throw, which was monstrous at 89.34 m, to enter the finals of the event, which is scheduled to be played on the 8th of August.

India also had an exceptional run finally in wrestling, the event that has given the nation the most number of medals. Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who is making her third appearance in the Olympics, made a huge record as she defeated the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and World No. 1 Yui Susaki to enter the quarterfinals.

Phogat already claimed history with this win over a player who had never faced defeat prior to this game, and next, she took a comfortable victory over a Ukrainian wrestler, Oksana Livach. This earned him a semi-final spot, where she will be seen today later in the day.

Also, the Indian men’s hockey team made their way into the semi-final after securing stunning victories over Australia and Great Britain, as now the competition gets tougher with them facing the Germans in the semis.
