Controversies are never new to the game of cricket; however, every controversy does not have the same reception. The most recent controversy over social media arose when the England-based sportswear company Gray Nicolls made a cheeky remark on veteran Indian skipper and wicketkeeper-batsman, MS Dhoni.
After the 2nd test featured England and the West Indies, both sides’ wicketkeepers, Jamie Smith and Joshua Da Silva, were seen using Gray Nicolls hand gloves. After using the pictures in favour of brand promotion, the Gray Nicolls team wrote on social media, “Are you even a wicketkeeper if you don’t use Gray-Nicolls?“ Good to see both Jamie and Joshua Da Silva wearing Gray Nicolls.
After posting this on Facebook, one of MS Dhoni’s fans posted, Do you know a player named MS Dhoni? In return for the question, though playfully, the Gray Nicolls team landed a cheeky controversial remark, where they said, “Never heard of.”
This was it, as this remark did not land lightly for all Dhoni fans. MS Dhoni is not only considered a player; he is often known to be an emotion for his fans and spectators. MS Dhoni has been the most successful Indian batter down at No. 7, having scored more than 10,000+ runs in ODI cricket in a career spanned over 15 years. He is often known for his remarkable success as the skipper of the Indian team.

But even if kept all aside, Dhoni is the finest ever man to have kept the wickets. Known for his remarkable reflexes and electrifying stumpings alongside excellent catching abilities, he is considered the finest in the history of the game. When neglecting the contributions of Dhoni, Gray Nicolls faced the outrageous fans.
Fans said, “It’s not them; btw, I can understand as you can’t afford.” Another one rose on occasion and wrote, “This is the reason why only temporary wicketkeepers are using Gray Nicolls.” Undoubtedly, after the immense criticism from fans, this will affect Gray Nicolls at least among Indian fans and players, as they will lower the respect for the English brand.
