Indian football team: Following back-to-back losses in the King’s Cup, India’s football team has lost three places in the most recent FIFA rankings, to 102nd.
The Indian football team has dropped to 102nd position in the new FIFA rankings, which is disappointing for Indian football fans. As a result, they have lost five spots from their previous position of 99th.
This decrease is the result of two bad King’s Cup performances. India lost to Iraq in the semi-finals before falling short against Lebanon in the third-place playoff.
India was beaten on penalties by Iraq in the semi-finals of the King’s Cup in Thailand after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Lebanon beat them 0-1 in the third-place playoff.
Sunil Chhetri guided Igor Stimac’s lads to an excellent 2023 record till the King’s Cup. Previously, they hosted and won three tournaments, including the eighth SAFF Championship.
It allowed India to re-enter the FIFA top 100 for the first time since 2018. Their next challenge will be the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia, followed by the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.
In January, Stimac’s team will play in the AFC Asian Cup against Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria. They are now ranked 19th in Asia.
