FIFA World Cup 2022 Final: Argentina vs. France: After a 3-3 thriller over 120 minutes, Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties to win their third World Cup after 36 years. After Argentina took a 2-0 lead through Lionel Messi and Angelo Di Maria, it was Kylian Mbappe who pulled France back within 97 seconds of the second half. Messi scored once more in extra time, but France scored another goal from an Embappé chance.
France coach Didier Deschamps reverted to his preferred line-up after center-backs Dayot Upamecano and Adrien Rabiot ruled them out of the semi-final against Morocco. Upamecano starts alongside Raphael Varane after the Manchester United defender also recovered from a virus, while Olivier Giroud starts ahead of Kylian Mbappé on the left and Ousmane Dembele on the right.

He scored a brace against Mexico, while equalizing Argentina in the final with an extra-time equaliser, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
Since the award’s official inception in 1982, Lionel Messi is the only player to win the Golden Ball twice at the World Cup (2014, 2022).
Argentina won its third World Cup trophy (1978, 1986, 2022), 36 years after the last, becoming the fourth country to win three or more World Cups and the only country to win three titles.
