Riccardo Calafiori started his career under Jose Mourinho at Roma, reportedly the Italian central defender was already in talks for a move to the Premier League likely with Arsenal.

The Italian 6ft2 defender was one of the only impressive players for the Azzurri as the defending champions crashed out of the Euro 2024. After his stunning run with Bologna that took them ahead to the Champions League, the 22-year-old has emerged to be one of the best defenders in Europe.

According to reports, the Bologna defender who can also play in the role of a left-back, and has been seen on the offensive front, is all set to make a move to England, as the Gunners make an offer worth $54.3 million.

As per the reports from the Athletic, Calafiori will undergo several fitness and medical tests and if everything goes well, he will be seen lining up for the Mikel Arteta-led Arsenal side in the United States, as the Gunners will face English rivals Liverpool and Manchester United in the pre-season.

Calafiori’s previous side FC Basel is entitled to receive a hefty amount of his sell clause amount, which they had finalised during his movement to Bologna.

This signing will mark Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after David Raya joined the Gunners for a full contract permanently after being with them full-season on lean in the previous edition. All this intent is being shown by Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in order to secure their first victory in the PL since 2004.
