Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a stunning century on day two of the Test match against the West Indies in Dominica, becoming the 17th Indian player to reach three figures on Test debut.
Jaiswal, who restarted on 40 not out, was alert yet upbeat during his time at the bat. On day two, the 21-year-old surged after the lunch break and finished with a solid hundred.
The left-handed opener became India’s 17th Test rookie to score a century. Shreyas Iyer did it last in 2021 against New Zealand in Kanpur. Notably, his opposite number, Rohit Sharma, had also achieved a Test hundred on debut in 2013, again against the West Indies.

Before this Test, Jaiswal had only played 15 first-class games in his career, but he averaged over 80 with nine hundreds, including a magnificent 265 in the second innings of the Duleep Trophy Final last year. The opener reached his century on Test debut in the 70th over, when his opening partnership with Rohit had reached 200.
Before the tea break, Rohit joined Jaiswal, scoring his tenth Test century and surpassing 3500 Test runs. But the captain was out the next ball to newcomer Alick Athanaze, who gloved a catch down the leg side to Joshua Da Silva.
The 229-run opening partnership between Rohit and Jaiswal is India’s second-highest in West Indies Tests. Vijay Manjrekar and Pankaj Roy set the mark in 1953, putting up 237 for the second wicket at Sabina Park.
