The Australian team’s latest win came thanks to a superb bowling performance from veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who took 11 wickets for the match to compensate for Cummins’ unexpected absence due to family reasons. While the batting might have been a collapse for Australia throughout the series, especially after Usman Khawaja fell for a duck in the second innings, Travis Head (49) and Marnus Labuschagne (28) propelled them to a stirring victory. Did.

That win has helped Australia secure an impressive 68.52 points of their potential WTC points and means they will remain first in the World Test Championship standings regardless of the result in the final Test of the ongoing series against India. While India are second on the standings with 60.29 of their possible WTC points and are in the box seat to qualify for the one-off Test at The Oval in June, they could still overtake Sri Lanka if the results hold. Sharma’s side go up against Rohit in the coming weeks.

A win in the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad would ensure India’s place in the WTC final, but another win or a draw for the visitors would open the door for Sri Lanka to overtake Rohit’s team and snatch the last spot.

Sri Lanka have two Tests away from home against New Zealand this month and know they need a 2-0 series sweep over the Kiwis to stand any chance of making the WTC final.
