WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants pulled off a dramatic four-run victory over Delhi Capitals in Match 4 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday night.
In a contest packed with explosive batting, momentum swings, and late drama, the Giants showed remarkable composure to defend a big total and register a memorable win.
Sophie Devine Leads Gujarat Giants’ Batting Blitz
Asked to bat first, Gujarat Giants posted an imposing 209 all out in 20 overs, scoring at a brisk run rate of 10.45. The foundation of the innings was laid by an outstanding knock from Sophie Devine, who produced one of the finest innings of the season.
Devine smashed 95 off just 42 balls, striking seven fours and eight sixes at a staggering strike rate of 226.19. Her brutal assault included a jaw-dropping over in which she hit four sixes and two fours, completely turning the game in Gujarat’s favour.
She received solid support from captain Ashleigh Gardner, who played a powerful knock of 49 from 26 balls, maintaining the pressure on the Delhi bowlers.
Wicketkeeper Beth Mooney added a handy 19, while valuable cameos from Anushka Sharma (13) and Kashvee Gautam (14) ensured Gujarat crossed the 200-run mark.
For Delhi Capitals, Nandini Sharma was the standout bowler, picking up multiple wickets, while Sree Charani and Chinelle Henry chipped in at crucial moments to prevent an even bigger total.
Delhi Capitals’ Spirited Chase Falls Just Short
Chasing 210, Delhi Capitals fought bravely and kept the contest alive until the final over. Lizelle Lee led the charge with a superb 86 off 54 balls, laced with 12 boundaries. Her innings kept Delhi in the hunt despite early setbacks.
She was well supported by Laura Wolvaardt, who played an elegant yet aggressive knock of 77 off 38 balls, striking nine fours and three sixes at a strike rate above 200. The pair added significant momentum in the middle overs, putting Gujarat under pressure.
However, timely breakthroughs made the difference. Sophie Devine delivered with the ball as well, dismissing both Wolvaardt and Delhi captain Jemimah Rodrigues, swinging the momentum back towards the Giants. Rajeshwari Gayakwad chipped in with key wickets, while Kashvee Gautam removed Lizelle Lee at a crucial stage.
Despite a late push, Delhi Capitals finished on 205/5, falling agonizingly short by just four runs.
