With Allah Ghazanfar ruled out and Jasprit Bumrah doubtful, who will the Mumbai Indians rely on to lead their bowling attack?
Who will lead MI's attack in Bumrah's absence in IPL 2025

The IPL 2025 is not far away, as Mumbai Indians seem worried with some randomness caused by injuries to international players like Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah and Afghan rising superstar Allah Ghazanfar.

The Mumbai Indians picked the Afghan spinner with lots of hope, as they could mark him as their lead spin option despite his relatively less experience on the international platform. Now, possibly with Ghazanfar ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy and also being devoid of his debut in the IPL, Mumbai will likely have to sight their other options in the spin department.

While also Jasprit Bumrah, the iconic lead bowler in the Mumbai camp, even in the previous season Bumrah was the best performer with the most wickets for the team with the lowest economy in the season, a performance that seemed unbelievable despite MI ending the season in the last position in the points table.

With the absence of the Afghan spinner sparking the flame of who will now lead the MI’s spin attack now, the management seemed ready to have their queries answered. Likes of Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner have immense experience to have featured in T20 matches all around the globe to switch in his role.

The Kiwi skipper who will lead them in the Champions Trophy might also lead the MI’s spin attack alongside some fellow all-rounders, with the likes of Will Jacks and Naman Dhir also being the other possible options.

MI probably went for building one of the most hyped and trustworthy bowling decks in the history of the IPL. They brought back their old hack Trent Boult into the side, as MI is well aware of his worth during tough phases of the game, especially his striking ability with the new ball.

Deepak Chahar, who has troubled the MI batters for a long time, featuring in yellow T-shirts in the biggest IPL rivalry with CSK, was also included with the hope to find a perfect powerplay bowler, while Bumrah was idealized more as the death overs specialist.

However, now with Bumrah’s absence, MI will have raised concerns in the death overs, while Boult and Pandya might be bowling towards the death with Penmetsa emerging as an option in the middle-overs as well as the new ball. Not ideally Bumrah’s replacement, but this is what MI can advance with; otherwise, they would have to bring in the likes of Reece Topley among experienced pacers to replace Bumrah in the 11.
