Will Rahul Dravid be a full-time India’s coach? Here is what Aakash Chopra says.
Ever Since BCCI named the former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid as the coach of the second-string Indian team heading out to play against Sri Lanka in the island nation, the netizens and fans all across the globe have gone crazy over Dravid’s exceptional leadership skills and values. The magnitude of the craze among the fans is such that many of them have demanded the BCCI to appoint Rahul Dravid as a full-time head coach of India.
India managed to seal the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the second game itself and Rahul Dravid’s gamble to send Rahul Chahar ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played the trick and won the series.
However, is this going to happen anytime soon? Will Rahul Dravid come on the same page to coach India? Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator have something to say.
Aakash Chopra in his recent youtube video said that the current head coach of Team India, Ravi Shastri will continue to lead the team.
Chopra reckons that Dravid is unlikely to put his name in the bowl to coach the senior men’s team and will be out of the race.
It is noteworthy, Ravi Shastri’s contract as head coach of team India was renewed after the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 and will be up for renewal after the completion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
“I don’t think Rahul Dravid is going to put his name on the list. There can be just one competition if Rahul says he wants to be India’s coach. If he wants, then it will be a strong fight,” said Aakash Chopra.
The renowned commentator further added that it will be a walk in the park and a one-sided win for Ravi Shastri if Rahul Dravid steps back from putting his card for the coaching role.
“But if Dravid doesn’t put his name, whoever puts his name on that list, he will not be able to stand in front of Ravi Shastri, that is what I believe but then we shall find out.”

Will Rahul Dravid be a full-time India’s coach? Here is what Aakash Chopra says.
The BCCI has offered the role to the legendary cricketer in the past, but he didn’t take it as it would require him to stay away from his family for a long period. However, with him agreeing to coach India for the Sri Lanka tour, there has been a buzz around social media that he might end up accepting the role.
In fact, a couple of former Indian cricketers have also shown their interest in seeing Rahul leading the senior Indian boys.
Chopra further in his video stated that the selection process for the coach in the next term might just be a formality, as the Indian team has done alright in the recent past.
“I don’t think there is going to be any change. I feel Ravi Shastri will continue. Just because there is a process, applications will be invited, there will be some recce. I don’t see a change in the offing, to be very honest.”
“There is another T20 World Cup within a year of this T20 World Cup and there is a 50-50 World Cup a year after that. You have reached the World Test Championship final and the team is doing alright, then why change.”
