Venue for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 shifted from Bangladesh to UAE: Women’s cricket is now at the peak of popularity, the shorter format tournament T20 World Cup is set to begin in Bangladesh but with the situation there not being the same as before, a new venue has been confirmed for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The ICC has confirmed the UAE as the new venue for the flagship women’s event. The ICC has announced that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which was scheduled to be held in October, will now shift from Bangladesh to the UAE.
The UAE will now host the Women’s T20 World Cup in its ninth edition.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will continue to organize the eagerly awaited ninth edition of the women’s cricket competition, which will now take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The competition will be place in two UAE locations, Dubai and Sharjah, from October 3 to October 20.
“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.
“I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.
“I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026.”
The UAE, home of the ICC headquarters, has grown in prominence as a cricket hub in recent years. Along with Oman, it will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 and many qualifying events.
With its top-notch infrastructure and facilities, the UAE is prepared to host the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The men’s and women’s teams, which are now rated 16th in the ICC T20I Team Rankings, are testaments to the nation’s increasing popularity in the sport.
