The UP T20 League 2024’s 20th match saw the Meerut Mavericks take on the Kanpur Superstars in a rain-affected match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The Mavericks skipper Rinku Singh made a significant change to the course of the game with the ball this time around. Putting on to bat first in a rain-affected 9-over match, the Mavericks did not have the best of starts as they were 49/2 in 7 overs.
The openers, among whom one Chikara got out for a minor duck while the other kept wasting deliveries in quest of runs. Madhav Kaushik batted 18 runs off 17 balls, while he wrecked a storm in the final two overs of the match, as he scored 34 runs off just 9 balls and finished his innings not out on 52 off just 26 balls.
This gave Meerut Mavericks the end to the innings they needed, as they were 90/3 at the end of 9 overs.
On the contrary, the Superstars started very well, as the openers batted very aggressively, with a total of 61 runs at the loss of three wickets in 5 overs while chasing 91 runs.
They needed just 45 runs in the last 4 overs, while the Mavericks skipper Rinku Singh came in to bowl the 6th over. He was hit for a boundary on the first ball, and he bounced back, dismissing Shaurya in the very next ball.
Next, he gave away singles, while he claimed his second wicket of the over in a wide delivery when the batter was stumped forward. His last wicket of the over was Sudhanshu Sonkar, as he was caught at mid-wicket, attempting to clear the fence.
Rinku was first seen bowling the 19th over of the game under Gambhir’s reign for India against Sri Lanka in the final T20I, as he gave away just 3 runs and picked 2 wickets in the over. This is his second successful stint as an off-spinner, as he has picked 3/7 in the only over he bowled.

After Rinku’s over, the Kanpur Superstars fell back-to-back wickets as they were all-out for 83, as they lost the match to the Mavericks by 22 runs, which takes the winners to the tabletop with 6 wins from 7 matches.
Rinku’s evolution as a bowler or even a part-timer would hand a huge perk to his career, as in a T20 game with his stunning batting prowess, fielding antics, and now handy bowling he can turn to be an irreversible choice for franchises and the nation as well.
