Top Domestic Players are the ones who give an overview of the depth of a team. The depth of Indian cricket is unmatched. The lineups in all three formats are so deep that we can field 3 teams in all three formats on any given day. Talking about the red-ball format, the Indian team seems to have the least depth. So, when we talk about Indian middle-order batters or fast bowlers, we seem to have fewer options in red-ball cricket. So, here are a few of the probables who can get a chance in the toughest format of the sport:
Sarfaraz Khan is one of the top domestic players:
Sarfaraz Khan had a dream Ranji Trophy season in 2021 and 2022. He had shown signs of a comeback in the last few games of Ranji Trophy 2020-2021 itself. So, the last season’s dominance was carried on this season as well. Sarfaraz was the top run-getter this season. The Mumbai top-order was struggling big time, but Sarfaraz was in the middle-order and saved the day every single time.
Prasidh Krishna is one of the top domestic players:
Skiddy has been one of the top bowlers in the domestic circuit for a very long time. Prasidh belongs to an elite group of Karnataka players. He has played alongside Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal, and Karun Nair. He was groomed by KL Rahul in the initial few days. Skiddy has been associated with the national team since the 2021 England tour of India. He has been consistently bowling in the India nets. His ability to clock 145 clicks regularly makes him very unique. He is a hit-the-deck bowler and can easily replace Ishant Sharma.
Saurabh Kumar:
Left-arm spinners are always the talk of the town. Because Ravindra Jadeja is a three-format player and Axar Patel also plays two formats, Saurabh can get a chance if any one of them gets injured. He was associated with the team that was picked for the South Africa series. With the number of injuries that we see within just a month, there is more than a certain chance awaiting Saurabh. He burst on the scene in the 2021 Ranji Trophy season, where he ended as the leading wicket-taker.
Suryakumar Yadav is one of the top domestic players:
We have always seen a general trend that the players who excel in the white ball format are given a chance in the red-ball format. Shreyas Iyer was chosen along the same lines. So, there is a big chance that Surya gets picked for the red-ball format in the middle order. Currently, you have a visible void in the place of Ajinkya Rahane. Hanuma Vihari is a top contender for that slot but Surya and Shreyas have made strong cases for themselves.
Deepak Hooda:
Deepak Hooda also has the same case as Surya. Hooda has been rising through the ranks in domestic cricket. He played exceptionally well in the Ranji 2021, SMAT 2020, VJT 2020, and VJT 2021 seasons. He has dominated every tournament and has earned his national call-up. Hooda can play the number 6 position well and can make for the 5th bowling option that India always likes to have. He doesn’t turn the ball square, but you never know.
