The next New Zealand ODI will feature a new Pakistan captain instead of Nida Dar: Nida Dar, who suffered a facial injury in the first New Zealand vs Pakistan ODI, has been ruled out of the second match and a new captain has been appointed in her place.
In Nida’s absence, fast bowler Fatima Sana will captain Pakistan. The second ODI will begin on Friday, December 15 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
22-year-old Fatima will become the 10th captain to lead the Pakistan women’s team in ODIs. This young bowler herself could not play in the recent series against Bangladesh due to injury.
However, she was a standout player in the T20I series against the hosts and received the Player of the Series award. She took six wickets at an economy of 5.60 in the series and was named player of the match in the first T20I.
“It is an honor to lead the Pakistan women's side in ODIs, although the circumstances are unfortunate with Nida Dar's injury. She has been an inspiration, and I wish her a speedy recovery," Fatima said.
“We had a historic T20I series win against New Zealand, and I know the players are eager to perform well in the ODI series too. Although we didn't have a good outing in the first ODI, we are all geared up to excel in tomorrow’s game.”
