IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah picking his favorite wicket after taking six wickets in the Test against England in Vizag. After a brilliant exhibition of fast bowling in the Test match against England in Vizag on Saturday, February 3.

Jasprit Bumrah explained how the lessons learned from domestic cricket helped him negate England’s aggressive approach on a relatively flat wicket. Bumrah was the only bowler of the Indian cricket team who destroyed the English batting lineup in the first innings of the third day.

“Here I have played less Test matches but a lot of first-class cricket, so I go back to first-class cricket. I think about what works for me when the wicket is very flat, what do I do?

“So keep an eye on the game, where the game is going, support your ability, try to stay in the present, all those things are part of my plan for how I find answers.”

Bumrah’s decisive spell came from the old ball when it started to reverse. The fast bowler, who hit four fours in one over of Jack Crawley, said that he was not too bothered by the fours hit at him.

“You have to be careful what you want to do because if the ball is not doing much then you want to give control to the team,” he said.

“So I was just focusing on that. Obviously some good balls also went for four runs, but that’s OK.”

“If I back myself and if I bowl some good balls, the way England are playing, you feel you are always in the game. Because if you go after the bowlers, if you bowl good balls If there is something, the odd ball may be a seam and you may be in the game.”

Bumrah’s persistence paid off as he took six big wickets to bowl out England from 114/1 to 253 all out, including Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes after his match-winning innings of 196 in Hyderabad.

Pope was dismissed by a sharp inswinging yorker, which attracted wide attention on social media. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes fell victim to a peach, leaving the England captain looking helplessly shaking his head as he walked away.

But which was Bumrah’s favorite wicket among the sixes he took? “Joe Root’s [wicket],” Bumrah told Geo Cinema.

“We understand that this is an important wicket in this Test match. He is a world-class batsman and we know that on this wicket, it was really important to get his wicket because the wicket is not doing much.

“It’s a slow wicket. We understand it was an important stage and if we get him out it will benefit you. We understand how important he is to the England team so we are very happy with that.”
