Bangladesh test match squads: Bangladesh has announced a strong 15-member squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka starting on March 22 in Sylhet.

Wicketkeeper-batsman and former captain Liton Das has returned to the Bangladesh Test team after missing the last series against New Zealand due to paternity leave.

Liton, who was the captain of the Test team at the time, was replaced by Nazmul Hossain Shanto for the series and was subsequently named captain of all three formats last month.

The ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka will be Nazmul’s first appointment with the Test team after taking over as full-time captain.

Due to bad form, Liton was recently removed from the ODI squad. In 39 Test matches, he has amassed 2394 runs at an average of 36.27. In 28 of these test matches, he also served as the official wicketkeeper.

The team has lost Nurul Hasan, who took Liton’s place at wicketkeeping during the home Test series against New Zealand.
The 15-man squad now includes Mushfiq Hasan and Nahid Rana, two new fast bowlers. Ebadot Hossain, a senior fast bowler, has not played since sustaining a knee injury that prevented him from participating in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India last year.

“Rana is a very exciting prospect. He is probably the quickest bowler in Bangladesh at the moment and can also extract steep bounce," former Bangladesh player and a member of the current selection panel, Abdur Razzak, said.

"Although these are early days for him, his first-class record is quite impressive. There is another young pacer Mushfik Hasan in the squad. This is the right time for these pacers to get the experience as Ebadot (Hossain) is out injured and Taskin (Ahmed) is also not playing Tests at the moment.”
