T20 World Cup 2024: According to reports, BCCI may call back two Indian team reserve players | Points Table: Shubman Gill, who is with the Indian team as a reserve, will return home after the US leg of the Twenty20 World Cup is over. One of the reserve pacers, possibly Avesh Khan, could return after the match against Canada in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 15.

As of Thursday, both players are in Florida, having arrived in Fort Lauderdale from New York with the team on Wednesday on a chartered flight. Charters were arranged for both the India and USA teams after their game at the Nassau County International Stadium on Long Island on Wednesday afternoon.

If no other players sustain unexpected injuries, Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill are expected to be in attendance solely for the US leg. They were scheduled as backups since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would find it challenging to send reinforcements from India to the US or the Caribbean in the case of a catastrophe.

If a regular player gets injured during practice on June 14 or during a game the next day, the pair could be asked to stay with the team. However, that is unlikely to happen due to the inclement weather in Florida, which could disrupt the World Cup schedule.

Also, with Yashasvi Jaiswal as the third opener, and the team’s expected reliance on spinners on Caribbean grounds, an extra pacer may not be required.

When the World Cup squad was revealed on April 30, the selection committee had designated Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh as reserve players.

Rinku and Khaleel may currently travel with the squad to Bridgetown, Barbados, where on June 20, India will play their first Super 8 match. June 22 in Antigua and June 24 in St. Lucia are the locations of the remaining two Super 8 games.

If the Indians reach the semi-finals, the game will be held in Georgetown, Guyana on June 27, while the final is scheduled for June 29 in Bridgetown.
