ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: The Group B match between Scotland and England was abandoned due to rain, disappointing spectators who missed out on an exciting contest.
Scotland won the toss, with captain Richie Berrington opting to bat first in Bridgetown against England’s pace-heavy lineup. A brief rain shower delayed the start by 30 minutes, but the match began without any loss of overs. England thought they had an early breakthrough when George Munsey top-edged a catch to Jos Buttler off a Mark Wood delivery, only for it to be nullified by a no-ball call.
Michael Jones continued to build momentum for Scotland before a second rain delay, hitting a huge six into the Kensington Oval roof and taking 15 runs off Chris Jordan’s first over.
Jos Buttler’s England side, the defending champions, have Jofra Archer back in the squad, boosting their chances. However, England has never beaten a European team in a Men’s T20 World Cup, and Scotland hopes to maintain this record with an upset in the Caribbean.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: Netherlands vs Nepal low-scoring thriller Match as Netherlands beat Nepal
Max O’Dowd anchored the Netherlands’ chase with a calm and composed half-century, carrying his bat as the Dutch navigated a couple of nervy periods to reach 109/4 and secure a win with seven balls to spare.
Earlier, the Netherlands’ bowling attack delivered an impressive performance to restrict Nepal to 106 all out in the first innings.
Nepal’s top order struggled to score runs in their return to World Cup action for the first time since 2014. Captain Rohit Paudel (35 from 37) was the only batter to look comfortable against an effective Dutch attack that regularly picked up wickets.
Professional Run-Chase Seals the Win
Nepal had a glimmer of hope when Sompal Kami had Michael Levitt caught in just the second over. However, O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh (22) calmed Dutch nerves with a steady 40-run partnership. Sybrand Engelbrecht then contributed a helpful 14 from 16 balls, bringing the target within reach.
Kami (1/18 from 4 overs), Abinash Bohara (1/29 from 3.4 overs), and Dipendra Singh Airee (1/6 from 2 overs) took wickets for Nepal. Despite their efforts, the Netherlands remained in control as long as O’Dowd was at the crease. The experienced opener finished unbeaten on 54 from 48 balls, with Bas de Leede hitting the winning runs to end on 11* from 10 balls.
Nepal’s First-Innings Struggles
A rain shower delayed the toss by half an hour, raising concerns of a reduced-overs contest in front of a large crowd in Dallas. However, the weather cleared, and Netherlands’ captain Scott Edwards opted to bowl first after winning the toss.
Excellent bowling in the powerplay kept things tight for the Dutch, who removed both openers cheaply. Tim Pringle dismissed Aasif Sheikh (4 from 8), and Logan van Beek trapped Kushal Bhurtel lbw for 7 (10).
At the midway point of their innings, Nepal was struggling at 53/4, with Anil Sah (11 from 12) and Kushal Malla (9 from 9) departing. Lower-order contributions from Gulsan Jha (14 from 15) and Karan KC (17 from 12) helped Nepal reach triple figures.
Logan van Beek wrapped up the innings with back-to-back wickets in the final over, ending Nepal’s innings at 106 all out. Pringle finished with 3/20 from his four overs, Paul van Meekeren took 2/19, Bas de Leede picked up 2/22, and Van Beek completed the job with 3/18 from 3.2 overs.
Crucial Victory for Group D Qualification
Fans turned out in force for the first match between the Netherlands and Nepal at this T20 World Cup. Both teams knew that victory was crucial for advancing in a competitive group.
South Africa and the Netherlands currently occupy the Group D qualifying spots after two fixtures, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also vying for advancement in the challenging five-team pool.
Nepal will aim to bounce back in their next match against Sri Lanka in Lauderhill on Wednesday, June 12.
