Australia’s Marcus Stoinis tops ICC T20I all-rounder rankings, Mohammad Nabi out: Australia’s Marcus Stoinis has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I All-rounder Rankings, ending Mohammad Nabi’s short-lived reign.
Stoinis’ rise to the top has been made possible on the back of some brilliant performances that have been instrumental in Australia’s impressive run in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Stoinis’ stellar performance
zMarcus Stoinis has been a revelation for Australia in this tournament, impressing with both bat and ball. His six wickets in the group stage have included three crucial batting contributions.
The highlight of his campaign so far has been an inspirational 59 off just 29 balls against Scotland, a match-winning effort that came when Australia were struggling at 60/3 in the ninth over.
Stoinis’ brilliant all-round brilliance has not only helped his team maintain a perfect record but also propelled him to the top of the ICC rankings.
Reshuffle in top all-rounders
Wanindu Hasaranga and Shakib Al Hasan have cemented their places in the top three after Stoinis. Mohammad Nabi remains a close contender despite slipping to fourth. This reshuffle at the top underlines the competitive nature of international T20 cricket, where an exceptional series can significantly impact players’ rankings.
West Indies bowlers shine
While the West Indies are co-hosting the World Cup, it is their bowlers, not their famed batting lineup, who are hogging the headlines. Akeal Hosein has moved up six places to second in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, only behind England’s Adil Rashid.
Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Moti have also made impressive gains, moving up six and 16 places respectively, with Joseph now outside the top ten and Moti moving up to 13th.
This bowling prowess has been crucial for West Indies, providing a balanced attack that complements their explosive batting.
Performance of in-form batsmen
The top four in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings remain unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan holding on to their positions. However, the rankings are likely to change with several in-form players making significant moves.
Australian opener Travis Head has moved up five places to fifth, thanks to consistent performances. Meanwhile, West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has moved up eight places to 11th, reflecting his strong showing in the tournament.
Another West Indies star Sherfane Rutherford has also made a notable jump. His extraordinary unbeaten 68 against New Zealand has seen him climb 43 places to 42nd.
While Rutherford is unlikely to break into the top ten in the near future, his rise is a testament to the impact of his outstanding performances in high-stakes matches.
