IPL 2023: Steve Smith confirms comeback to the IPL 2023, fans are hurry to see him in KKR Jersey: Steve Smith confirmed his return to the IPL in 2023, sending KKR supporters into a frenzy.

While Smith did not reveal whose team he will be playing for in a video posted to his social media account, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) supporters couldn’t contain their excitement.

After a two-year absence, Australian batting sensation Steve Smith will return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. He had failed to find a buyer in the 2022 auction and afterwards decided to withdraw his name from registration for the mini-auction for the 16th season of the IPL.

While Smith did not reveal whose team he will be playing for in a video posted to his social media account, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) supporters couldn’t contain their excitement.

Smith’s final IPL game was in 2021 for the Delhi Capitals. He participated in the IPL for four different organisations overall. Smith made his debut in 2012 for the now-defunct Pune Warriors.

Two years later, the Rajasthan Royals signed him, and he played for them in 2014 and 2015. He moved his base to Rising Pune Supergiants, where he had previously coached the team to the final in 2017, following the suspension of the latter franchise due to corruption allegations.

He went back to Rajasthan in 2019 and it was declared that he would be the skipper in 2020. He participated in 103 games overall and amassed 2485 runs, including 100, throughout that time.

Smith announced on Monday that he would be returning to the IPL for the 2023 season despite all the rumours. “Namaste India. I have got some exciting news for you. I am joining IPL 2023. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India,” In a video that was tweeted.

Smith’s social media account was inundated with demands from Indian fans minutes after he uploaded the video, with KKR being the most notable of these.

The main reason KKR supporters want Smith to join the team is that the two-time champions are in desperate need of a captaincy option now that Shreyas Iyer, their normal captain, has apparently been ruled out for the entire season. Smith is reportedly planning to return to the IPL and work as a commentator.
