SA vs PAK: South African master slow left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the ODI series against Pakistan. Supposedly, media reports have claimed that Maharaj’s scans have detected a left adductor strain.
Maharaj, who seemed uncomfortable during the warm-up sessions before the first ODI match, where he was placed in the 11 but later was replaced by Phehlukawayo.
Now that South Africa is confirmed on Maharaj’s exit from the home tour against Pakistan, they have named Bjorn Fortuin as the ideal replacement for the remaining two ODIs against Pakistan.
The release of Keshav Maharaj from the South Africa squad clearly indicated that he would be heading back to Durban and staying in rehabilitation only to be reassessed before the first Test against Pakistan.
The now-confirmed injury of Maharaj has added to the missing queue of South African bowlers like Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder. Though both Mulder and Maharaj have been included in the Pakistan test squad.
Now in the longest format of the game in Maharaj’s absence, they will likely have the spin-bowling options of Dane Piedt and Senuran Muthusamy as the lead spinners to be chosen for the Proteas XI for the first test.
The first of the two tests will be played at the Centurion on the 26th of December, as the Proteas are just one win away from their first-ever entry into the WTC final, even if they are replaced from their current no. 1 position on the WTC points table.
