SA vs IND: Mohd Shami Likely to be Ruled Out of The South Africa Test Series | South Africa vs India Test Series 2024: Mohd Shami, who performed exceptionally in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 is recovering from an ankle injury and is likely to be unavailable for the two-match test series against South Africa, which is scheduled from 26 December 2023.
On November 30, 2023, Mohd Shami was included in India’s Test Squad against South Africa but he might not recover on time as there is a few weeks left for the test series. Some of the key players including Skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will take flight for South Africa whereas Mohd. Shami didn’t travel with them.
As per the sources, Mohd Shami will be recovering from his home and it is expected that he will come back in the five-match Test Series against England, which is scheduled to start from January 25, 2024. Hence, It will be good for the Indian Team that Shami will be available for the crucial test series against England.
Before the Test Series, the Indian Team will be playing the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which is scheduled to start on December 17, 2023, and the third and last ODI match will be played on December 21 at Boland Park.
What will be the impact on the Indian Team After Mohd Shami’s Absence:
Mohd. Shami has done excellent for the Indian Team in all formats in the past few years and he was also the leading wicket-taker of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, which shows how important he is in the India’s Pace Department.
Mohd. Shami gave good support from the other end to Jasprit Bumrah, which will Indian team to build early pressure on the opponents. But His absence will likely give the South African batter an upper edge in this test series.
Umran Malik and Navdeep Saini are expected to replace Mohd. Shami in this two-match test series against South Africa however, might not be included in the playing XI as Mohd. Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, and Prasidh Krishna are present in the squad and have good experience in international cricket.
