SA vs BAN: A day amazing for the next generation rising stars in Chattogram, as both opening batter Tony de Zorzi and in at no. 3 Tristian Stubbs scored maiden test hundreds for the Proteas to give them the upper hand early on over the host team.
South Africa have brought alive their chances in the WTC with their historic first ever victory in Asia, as Kagiso Rabad and Bedingham carved special efforts for the former with the ball and the latter with the bat.
Tony de Zorzi and Tristian Stubbs have put together South Africa’s third-highest and WTC’s second-highest second-wicket partnership as they eye a series sweep against Bangladesh.
South Africa made most of the batting-friendly pitch, as Nahid Rana, the lanky fast bowler brought into the test, introduced a steaming pace of 148 kph. Despite all of these, they could not rest the Protea force.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam went on to pick a five-for at Mirpur and also picked the only two wickets that fell against South Africa. On the other hand, Hasan Mahmud, the pacer, will be having a heavy heart, as his teammates dropped the batter de Zorzi twice on 6 and 69, en route to his unbeaten 141.
At lunch, the team looked comprehensive, with Zorzi nearing a hundred and Stubbs also looking settled handsomely, while at tea, both of these batters had scored their hundreds, maiden for them but records loading already.
De Zorzi, with this feat, also turned only the second Black African after Temba Bavuma to have scored a test hundred for South Africa. At Stumps, South Africa have extended themselves to a very respectable total of 307/2 at the end of Day 1. Zorzi remains not out on 141*, while Stubbs was out for 106, while also Bedingham is the other batter alongside Zorzi for 18*.
