Over the last few days, Social media has been buzzing with rumors that Rohit Sharma might join the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 season. These rumors came after Abhishek Nayar became the head coach of KKR for the upcoming season, and he is a close friend of Rohit Sharma and a former Indian batting coach.
However, the Mumbai Indians (MI) posted a witty message based on a famous dialogue by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is also co-owner of the KKR franchise. MI Wrote, “Sun will rise tomorrow again ye toh confirm hai, but at (K)night… mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai!”
The above phrase means, “The Sun will definitely rise tomorrow, but at Knight Riders… not only difficult, but impossible.” This message dismisses all the rumors of Rohit Sharma going to KKR; there is no chance of Rohit moving to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Will Rohit play for MI in IPL 2026?
Mumbai Indians have already confirmed that some of their key players, including Rohit Sharma, will definitely play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The chances are high that Rohit might not go to any other franchise till he retires from franchise cricket. It is expected that he will play for at least 3-4 years as of now.
In the last few years, Rohit’s performance in the Indian Premier League has declined a lot, which raises concerns over his position in the Playing XI. Many experts and fans criticized him for not passing his position to the young talents, but many came in support, as he is one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians (MI) won five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020). However, currently Hardik Pandya is leading the Mumbai Indians, and Rohit Sharma is playing as an opening batsman in the team.
