Ravindra Jadeja nearing a great feat in red-ball cricket history joins Kapil Dev and Ashwin in the elite list

Indian cricketer and star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja has been a true asset to the Indian team across every format he has starred for. The veteran all-rounder is only 6 wickets away from achieving a rare feat in the longest format of the game.

Ravindra Jadeja has played 72 red-ball matches for India, as he went on to score 3036 runs and has picked 294 wickets as well. He is only 6 wickets away, from joining the 10 World Class players in this elite list. Only two Indian players Kapil Dev and the great Ravi Ashwin have attained this major feat for India.

Kapil Dev who starred for India went on to score 5248 test runs and also pick 434 wickets a longtime second-highest for India until the great Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed him with 516* wickets and he also scored 3309 runs in the format with 5 hundreds as well.


Jadeja will have a chance to join this elite list of players during the upcoming 2-match test series to be played against Bangladesh.

Other foreign cricketers who have also achieved this rare feat in the history of the game include the likes of veterans like Shane Warne and the great Ian Botham. The Aussie legend has a career record of 708 test wickets, which is known to all, however, he also scored 3154 runs for them in 145 Tests.

New Zealand former bowling all-rounder Richard Hadlee was one of the first men on the list alongside Botham and Kapil Dev as he ended his career with 3124 runs and 431 wickets. Ian Botham too picked up 383 wickets, however, he was more prominent in a batting role, as he scored 5200, most until Kapil Dev went past.


New Zealand great Daniel Vettori, Pakistan legend and World Cup-winning skipper, Imran Khan and lastly Shaun Pollock went on to pick 362, 362 and 421 wickets in the red ball format. They have all scored talking runs as 4531, 3807 and 3781 runs in their career, though they came to bat down at no.8 or lower.

England legend Stuart Broad who emerged as one of the six players who scored 600+ wickets, and also scored 3662 runs, the left-hander retired as one of England’s greatest names in the format. Chaminda Vaas was a very significant cricketer, as he has 3089 runs and 355 wickets for Sri Lanka and is the last man on this long list of expert cricketers who showed all-round brilliance in the longest format of the game.
