PAK vs NZ 2nd ODI

Pakistan vs New Zealand 2nd ODI Highlights: Pakistan are currently on their tour to New Zealand for a five-match T20I and a 3 match ODI series. New Zealand have most of their players missing either due to injuries or their participation in the ongoing IPL season.

Likely they are without the services of their biggest players like Will Young, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry and more, despite which under the leadership of their new skipper Michael Bracewell, the Blackcaps have produced some special results in the home series.

It was the visiting skipper Mohammed Rizwan for Pakistan who won the toss and opted to field first. New Zealand had a new opening pair in the debutant Rhys Mariu and Nick Kelly who put on a quickfire 54 runs of just 38 balls.

Even the Kiwi middle-order could not settle down well as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell and skipper Michael Bracewell were all sent back with more than half of the total overs remaining.

New Zealand struggled with 132 for 5 and were not looking capable enough to convert their good start. However, Mohammad Abbas, the half-centurion from the last match went on to build a rock-solid partnership alongside Mitchell Hay. The two youngsters under pressure added 77 runs for the 6th wicket.

Hay then took the command to the Kiwi innings and helped to play a more aggressive hand as he remained unbeaten on 99* off just 78 balls, as he missed on a very well-deserved 100. New Zealand ended 292/8 and set a target of 293.

Pakistan vs New Zealand 2nd ODI Highlights: Flops continue for Pakistan as Naseem Shah’s cameo could not rescue the visitors from a humiliating loss

The Pakistan batting innings never seemed like a batting inning but rather a portrayal of brilliance with the ball. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq struggled for over as the ball kept passing the outside edge of the bat.

They eventually fell to Jacob Duffy and Will O’Rourke, while star Pakistani batter Babar Azam was next dismissed cheaply on the very first ball of the fourth over. Duffy delivered a back-of-length delivery while Babar’s thick outside edge was caught at second slip. Azam went back scoring 1 off just 3 balls.

Eventually, the skipper and vice-captain, Rizwan and Salman Agha, who kept the wickets for a long time, were unable to score runs, and hence both of them were dismissed to Ben Sears, the third pacer for the Kiwis.

The Pakistan innings never looked convincing until Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah, the no. 10 batter for Pakistan, built a 100+ run partnership for the 9th wicket. Sears eventually got the outside edge of Ashraf after 80 balls and 73 runs scored, while Naseem Shah, with some orthodox as well as unorthodox shots, got to his career-best score in ODIs [51].

Naseem Shah’s stuns with the bat

Pakistan eventually lost the match by 84 runs, and Mitchell Hay was declared the Man of the Match for his stunning performance with the bat, while Ben Sears’s 5-for was also worthy of praise and appreciation, leading to New Zealand’s 2-0 victory in the ODI series.
