The Match no. 15 of the Women’s World Cup 2025 between the New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team and the Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team was tied due to the heavy rain at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka Women played excellent cricket, and they batted well against the decent bowling unit of New Zealand.

Nilakshi de Silva played a superb knock of 55 runs off 28 balls; she played an explosive inning at a strike rate of 196.43. Sri Lanka batters showed good cricketing skills, but they could have done better. However, Skipper Chamari Athapathtu, Vismi Gunaratne, and Hasini Perera also played well.

New Zealand Women failed to restrict Sri Lanka under 200; the bowling was not up to the mark. Sophie Devine and Breearne Illing were the only bowlers who were consistently performing for their team, whereas key players like Jess Kerr and Amelia Kerr are not in good form, which impacts the team’s performance in the World Cup.

AUS-W vs NZ-W Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 Match Highlights:

Sri Lanka Women won the toss and decided to bat first. While batting first, they had an excellent start as both the openers made a 101-run partnership for the first wicket. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu played a decent innings of 53 runs off 72 balls, whereas Vishmi Gunaratne scored 42 runs in 83 balls. 

However, if they had played a little more aggressive cricket, then someone would have made a century. Later, Hasini Perera came to bat and she also played well and scored 44 runs off 61 balls. Hasini was playing good shots and also rotating strike, but one bad shot selection cost her a wicket. 

Then, Sri Lanka Women lost a couple of wickets back-to-back, and New Zealand started gaining momentum in the game. But Nilakshi de Silva played a stormy inning of 55* (28) and led her team to the good target of 258 runs in 50 overs with a loss of 6 wickets. 

New Zealand’s bowling was exposed again, which has been a concern for them throughout the tournament. Skipper Sophie Devine took three wickets, and Breearne Illing got two wickets. They are the only bowlers from the New Zealand side who are consistently performing for their team.

But the match was called off due to the heavy rain in Colombo, and the match ended in a tie. Sri Lanka and New Zealand got one point each.
