NZ vs SL: 108 all-out, yet they clinch the series-leveling win in the second T20I match against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.
It is not even a month; the Kiwis are at the top of the cricketing world, with both the Blackcaps men and women being a surprise element in the game. The Women’s T20 World Cup went on to see Blackcaps women clinch their maiden title, while New Zealand clinched a test series in India after 36 years.
The Blackcaps continue to dominate their game with impossible achievements, as they defended a total of 108 away from home. In the first Kiwi innings, the pitch seemed very tricky, as none other than Will Young reached the double-digit score in the Kiwi top-order.
Nuwan Thusara, Mateesha Pathirana, and Wanindu Hasaranga slammed the Kiwi batters with their remarkable spells as they struck for nine wickets in the match and restricted the visitors to a minor total of 108.
Mitchell Santner and Josh Clarkson scored some valuable innings towards the back end of the New Zealand innings. Later, in the Lankan innings, Santner bowled out the opener, Kusal Mendis, with a ripper.
Later, Lockie Ferguson bowled two overs in which he claimed a match hat-trick where he ended with the figures of 3-7, which included the wickets of Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Charith Asalanka, the Sri Lankan skipper.
Ferguson had to leave the field owing to his calf injury, which might be a huge blow for New Zealand in the limited-overs format. Pathum Nissanka, the opening batter, scored a run-a-ball fifty, which brought glory to the Lankan side.
With Nissanka on the crease, Sri Lanka was left with 8 runs in the final over, with 3 wickets in hand. Phillips came in to bowl the final over of the game, and he ran a spell that left the fans spellbound.
Phillips dismissed the likes of Nissanka, Theekshana, and lastly, Pathirana, as Sri Lanka lost the game by 5 runs.
