Team India gave a memorable farewell to Dravid. After him, it was the former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir who took the charge and became the new head coach. It was a good start for Gambhir as India won the T20I series against Sri Lanka 3-0, but it was followed by an unexpected 2-0 ODI defeat.

Well, India are on a break of 42 days, and they will play a home Test series next against Bangladesh, which will get underway on September 19.

India will host Bangladesh for two Test matches, which will be played between September 19 and October 1 in Chennai and Kanpur, respectively. Gambhir brought in former Indian star Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate as assistant coaches with him.

The BCCI gave Gambhir a free hand, and now he brought another former colleague into the coaching staff. Former South African pacer Morne Morkel has been officially appointed as the new bowling coach of India. He will join the team ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh series.

There were some reports confirming his appointment, but the BCCI was yet to announce it officially. However, on Thursday (August 14), the Indian board confirmed that Morne Morkel will not assist Team India as bowling coach. Morkel has also worked as Pakistan’s bowling coach until November 2023. Morne Morkel was with KKR under Gambhir for three seasons between 2014 and 2016.

He was also part of Lucknow Super Giants for the first two seasons when Gambhir was the mentor. Now, he will have a big role as Indian bowling coach. The Men in Blue have a big Test season coming up, which will include a five-match Border-Gavaskar series in Australia. That’s where his role will be important. The first ICC event for Morkel will be the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
