The Ranji Trophy is a 4-day domestic tournament played in India. It is a first-class cricket tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually. This tournament currently consists of 38 teams representing various regional and state cricket associations. The tournament was founded in 1934 by the BCCI founder Anthony Stanislaus de Mello.

Mumbai is the most successful team in the tournament with 42 titles, followed by Karnataka (8 titles) and Delhi (7 titles). Originally established as “The Cricket Championship of India,” the tournament was renamed in 1935 to honour Ranjitsinhji, the first Indian cricketer to play at the international level. Representing England from 1896 to 1902, Ranjit Singh left an indelible mark on the sport, inspiring the renaming of the competition in his memory.

Here’s a list of Indian team players playing Ranji Trophy clash tomorrow:

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who last played a Ranji Trophy encounter in 2015, will be a part of the game between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir on January 23. In recent times, the opener has been struggling to make his mark in the red-ball format and will be looking forward to sharpening his skills and luck. Known for his elegant batting style, Rohit is expected to bring immense experience and calmness to Mumbai’s top order.

2: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Explosive Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in great form and continues to shine as one of India’s most promising young talents. The batter impressed everyone with his recent performances in Australia. The aggressive opener, with his blend of technique and power-hitting, is set to dominate in this clash. He will be paired alongside the Indian skipper at the top of the batting order for Mumbai.

Rishabh Pant, who was criticised for his performance in the BGT, will now step up for the Delhi side in the Ranji Trophy against Saurashtra. His last first-class cricket match was played in December 2017. His inclusion on the team adds flair and explosiveness to the batting order. Pant is likely to counter Saurashtra’s bowling attack with his signature fearless approach.

4: Ravindra Jadeja

One of India’s finest all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, will be included in the Saurashtra squad for the Ranji Trophy clash against Delhi. Ravindra Jadeja has been a splendid performer with both bat and ball for India; such will be his contributions for his first-class side. With Delhi boasting big hitters like Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni, Jadeja’s accuracy and vast experience will be crucial in resisting the opposition.

5: Shubman Gill

Young Indian batter Shubman Gill, who had a disappointing tour in Australia, would be looking forward to finding his form and rhythm in the Ranji Trophy clash for Punjab against Karnataka. He is a technically gifted and stylish batter who will boost the batting prowess of Punjab. Owing to his bad form, Shubman Gill looks to revive his form at least in domestic cricket, while the tough Karnataka bowling deck will test his adaptability.
