IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Jasprit Bumrah was the only one that looked promising for India in the ongoing third test at the Gabba in Brisbane. After a rained-out Day 1, the second day saw a bright and sunny morning, and Australia used it to full effect. The hosts dominated the second day, but it was Jasprit Bumrah who was a lone fighter. The ace pacer carried his golden form and bowled an exceptional spell at the Gabba.
Australia finished Day 1 at 405/7, with Mitchell Starc (7*) and Alex Carey (45*) remaining unbeaten. But before that, it was a record 241-run partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith that put India on the back foot. Head slammed consecutive centuries, and Smith brought up his 33rd test ton. From India, only Bumrah was the one who helped India stick to the match and took a fifer.
IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Jasprit Bumrah achieved a rare double with his fifer at Gabba
India started Day 1 brilliantly with Bumrah removing both openers in the first hour of the morning session. Marcus Labuschagne (12) got out cheaply to Nitish Reddy, and Australia were 75/3, but then Head and Smith struck a hundred apiece to take Australia to the driving seat. Both were looking to take Australia to the 400-run mark. But Bumrah once again came to India’s rescue.
He dismissed both centurions and completed his second fifer in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Jasprit Bumrah finished the day at 5/72 and achieved a couple of big records in Indian cricket history. This was Bumrah’s 12th Test fifer in just 43 tests. Overall, it was the 11th fifer for Bumrah combined in all three formats in away matches.
With this, he has surpassed Indian legendary captain Kapil Dev’s tally of 11 overseas five-wicket hauls. Bumrah has now most away five-wicket hauls for India in international matches. Apart from this, he went past Kapil Dev in another unique record of taking the most test fifers in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).
Bumrah now has 8 test fifers in SENA countries, going past Kapil’s seven. Without a doubt, Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers that India have produced, and stats also tell the same story. He hasn’t got the support from other bowlers, and India will rely on him to wrap up Australia’s tail early on Day 3.
