
The RCB management has finally made their call to announce their skipper for the upcoming season of the IPL 2025. Rajat Patidar, the retained player for INR 11 crore, has been trusted with the role of new RCB captain.
He will have the likes of great veterans like Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Liam Livingstone, and Tim David play under him. Stepping in as the captain, the Madhya Pradesh skipper will be the fourth Indian and seventh overall skipper to have worn the Captain’s band for RCB.

Before the fans pin their hopes on the newly appointed young skipper to end their Trophy drought, here are the former six captains of RCB over the years since the inaugural season of 2008 to the latest 2024 season, with only Rahul Dravid and AB de Villiers not in the list as they have never led from the front but have not been aids to standing skippers.

Legacy of RCB Captains amid the appoinment of a new RCB Captain:
1. Anil Kumble
Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble reamins one of the most veteran players to feature as RCB skipper in its earlier days from 2008-10. Kumble was a great leader, they made it to consecutive knockouts and also to the final of 2009 under his captaincy.
2. Kevin Pietersen
The English batter played in the RCB during its initial days, and he occasionally took over as RCB skipper from the then-skipper, Anil Kumble, out of 6 occasions, he led them to only 2 wins and 4 losses.
3. Daniel Vettori
One of the greatest names in world cricket and the currently the most successful among coaches, Daniel Vettori, the former Kiwi legend, as a player led RCB after the Kumble period, when the team won 53.27% of the matches under him.
4. Shane Watson
Australian star all-rounder Shane Watson was part of the RCB camp almost a decade back, when the player was widely regarded as one of the finest in the format and was bought at the highest ever price in the history of the IPL by RCB after his great show with the Royals. Watson led RCB before the captaincy passed onto the hands of the great Virat Kohli.
5. Virat Kohli
Kohli is the most sensational player to have ever featured in the history of the IPL and all-throughout his career for one single franchise the RCB. He led RCB to their second IPL final in 2016, which they eventually lost. Kohli, under whom RCB played multiple editions of the IPL from 2016-2022.
6. Faf du Plessis
Leading RCB over two seasons in 2023 and 2024, Faf du Plessis not only did a fairly good job as the skipper to the side, but also was an outrageous batter at the top alongside the former skipper and veteran Kohli. Faf’s 50% win percentage remains only behind the likes of Vettori and Kumble’s win rate for the Challengers.
