The IPL 2025 mega-auction is finally here, and fans will be eager to witness the building of their most beloved sides. Every team caused some stir with their unique set of retentions, as many popular players were released, which didn’t seem an anticipated decision.

With the IPL committee having released several sets of marquee players, the sets include several known and in-form players who might bag the biggest of bids in the history of the IPL. Also, with an increased purse amount, every IPL team has enough money left to acquire some talents after having retained their desired core team.

The IPL mega-auction is onto the heads of every cricketer in the world, just like Nathan Lyon poked fun at Pant, asking him whether to which franchise he is going.

Let’s take a look at the top priority Indian cricketers:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

One of the finest Indian options in the pace bowling deck, Bhuvi has been IPL’s longest-serving pace kingpin. Ever since Bhuvi joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013, he has been retained throughout all seasons and seemed unplayable on many occasions, especially during the early years of the Indian Premier League.

The SRH side has released Bhuvi, though with one RTM remaining they can target the veteran, while several other teams in the quest for Indian seamers would also look to rope him in.

Arshdeep Singh

World Cup winner and left-handed seamer, Arshdeep has been an asset to the Indian side and was terrific to the Punjab Kings in the IPL as well. He is known for his ability to swing the new ball while also bringing in variety with slower balls as well as yorkers during the death overs.

Singh would be one of PBKS’s prime targets as an RTM option, but the Punjab boy would be a red-hot bid in the auction table, as teams would be bidding desperately for the young Indian sensation.

Mohammad Shami

Indian veteran pacer Shami is back from his long rehab period after being ruled out of the game for over a year since the last Cricket World Cup in India. Shami is known largely for his accuracy and insane pace, which he generates despite his age and injuries.

Shami might no longer be seen in the Gujarat Titans camp, but he can be travelling to some southern parts of the nation, as the experience of the Bengal seamer can be of immense use to the franchises.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Another experienced veteran, Ashwin is still an asset to the teams; not only is he the solution for a quality spinner in the middle-overs, but Ashwin can also be effective with the bat in hand.

Ashwin will be a major target once again by the subcontinent franchises, as Ashwin has immense experience even as a title-winner. With the Chennai Super Kings, is Ashwin looking to travel back?

Yuzvendra Chahal

Another expert spinner in the deck of Indian superstars. Chahal is also IPL’s highest wicket-taker and the only player to have picked more than 200 wickets. Chahal’s vast experience will be of immense use across the short-dimension spinning tracks of the subcontinent.

From RCB to Royals, in every franchise Chahal has played for, he has been a true superstar and the highest wicket-taker for them. Which side will Chahal next be seen on?

Washington Sundar

Sundar has been one of India’s most interesting prospects, especially since his stunning performances in the Ranji Trophy and then the New Zealand series, where he emerged as India’s lead spinner, despite the presence of two other veteran spinners.

Sundar can be trusted with his batting as well as finishing capacity towards the end; though not much in the IPL, he has played such vital hands at times with his domestic side Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, the left-handed wicketkeeper batter, has been one of the costliest Indian wicketkeeper options to be brought into the IPL auction. Even in every mock auction, Ishan Kishan has been crucial as the franchises entered the auction with an immense bidding war for the opener.

KL Rahul

Currently the name on every Indian’s lips, Rahul was promoted back to the role of an opener and excelled with the bat as on the toughest of tracks in Perth, he batted stunningly alongside fellow opener Jaiswal to score a satisfying innings.

Rahul informed us that he wanted to part ways with the former franchise LSG in order to explore newer opportunities, with the forerunner being RCB, who want to acquire their old prospect. Rahul will be a huge player and one of the major causes of the bidding war between the two teams, RCB and PBKS, with the highest purse.

Shreyas Iyer

The title-winning skipper from the IPL 2024 has set the tone for the IPL mega-auction with a stunning innings in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Iyer smashed a stunning 130 runs against Goa, with several teams considering him in the role of a skipper as well.

Alongside Iyer, several other crucial players like Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Shahbaz Ahmed are playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Tilak and Shahbaz scored respective hundreds as well.

Rishabh Pant

Rightly and obviously the most vital player in the player auctions, Pant is the most surprising non-retained player in the IPL mega-auction. Delhi Capitals did not part ways with Pant for financial reasons but due to some other reasons.

Pant will be the most desired man on team sheets for any side, though acquiring a player of his calibre would be suitable only to the purses of only two teams with the highest purse. Pant can be an asset not only as a batter and wicketkeeper but also as a great captain.
