Likely that the PBKS were meant to have the highest purse as they did not see the retention of many of the players, which ensured them having the largest purse in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Now having replaced the likes of senior players in the team, the Punjab Kings have retained their two uncapped talents, Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh, for INR 4 crores and 5.5 crores, respectively.
This promises a likely purse of 110.5 crores into the mega-auction, the largest among all franchises. The Punjab Kings have even parted ways with their two-highest wicket-taking bowlers from the previous season, which marked purple cap winner Harshal Patel and also Indian World Cup winner Arshdeep Singh.
Alongside the Indian greats, they have released Sam Curran, the costliest ever PBKS player, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, and Liam Livingstone, all of whom will be vital in the mega-auction.
Being constant participants for all seasons of the IPL, Punjab Kings have made it to the playoffs and finals only once in 2014, and this time around a new coaching unit comprising of new head coach Ricky Ponting and bowling consultant James Hopes has been signed for the upcoming IPL 2025 edition.

Let’s take a look at the total purse amount retained for the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Rajasthan Royals
The Rajasthan Royals, who made it to the playoffs in the last edition, went on to retain many players, as they have spent the highest number of purses on retentions.
The likes of skipper Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been retained for a huge INR 18 crore, while young and rising talents Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel were included for a huge INR 14 crore. The only overseas retention marked that of Shimron Hetmyer, while Sandeep Sharma was the uncapped retention in the side.
Having spent a total of INR 79 crore on retention, the Rajasthan Royals are left with the least purse of 41 crore while also having no RTM cards left for them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have also retained their core side with the likes of this IPL’s costliest retention in Heinrich Klaasen for INR 23 crore. While also Cummins, the skipper, alongside the opening duo of Head and Abhishek.
Sunrisers, on the other hand, have spent INR 75 crore on their retentions, which also include Nitish Kumar Reddy for a minor 6 crore. They will enter the mega-auction with not much hope, with 45 crores in the bank and one RTM option left.
Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians are much like the last-time finalists from the IPL 2024, where they have retained the likes of their core team, with Jasprit Bumrah being at the top of the retention slabs with INR 18 crore, while Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma were to follow alongside Tilak Varma.
They will be left with an equal purse of 45 crores, while Mumbai will also have only one RTM card to use.
Chennai Super Kings
The CSK have also retained the likes of their 5 players in Jadeja, Gaikwad, Dhoni, Dube, and Pathirana and are left with only one RTM option left to retain a player. Likes of Rachin Ravindra might be in CSK’s head for the same.
CSK’s purse is tallied at INR 55 crores, as they would not be having the finest of auctions with the huge players coming into the mega auction.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders parted ways with former title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer and also their biggest bid of Mitchell Starc. They have retained their most trustworthy duo of Windies all-rounders, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.
Despite having a huge leap on Rinku Singh for INR 13 crore, the defending champions have INR 63 crore to decorate their banks into the mega-auction.
Gujarat Titans
The Gujarat Titans have kept a huge budget of INR 69 crore, of which Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan remain their most anticipated retentions, while the likes of Mohammad Shami and David Miller have been dropped. Much action awaits the Titans in the mega-auction.
Lucknow Super Giants
The LSG side has been in the buzz over their decision to drop the likes of KL Rahul, the former skipper World Class opener QDK, and all-rounders Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis.
With one retention left in the bank and a purse of INR 69 crore, they can be looking to rebuild some quality up in the middle during the mega-auction.
Delhi Capitals
The Capitals have made the most thrilling choice with releasing Rishabh Pant, a decision that never seems very likely a decision made, though they have two retentions in their pockets. Also, a purse of 76.5 crore seems very handsome for the Capitals.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB have retained the fewest players despite having a very decorated squad, as Virat Kohli is the costliest Indian option for INR 21 crore. Only having Patidar and Dayal, RCB are in the quest for a huge number of players to rebuild their squad, while KL Rahul seems their most likely invested player to bid on.
Punjab Kings
The Punjab Kings have the highest purse a team has entered the IPL mega-auction with. Recently in the concluded CPL, the St. Lucia, a daughter side of the Kings franchise, claimed their maiden title, and Punjab, looking to reinforce their squad under new head coach Ricky Ponting, would enter the mega-auction with a whopping INR 110.5 crore in their banks.
