The defending champions have finally announced Ajinkya Rahane as KKR captain in IPL 2025 for the upcoming season of the much-anticipated IPL 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders were the only team left to announce their skipper for the upcoming season of the IPL 2025.
KKR’s biggest investment in the IPL mega-auction, which came as an unpleasant surprise to many cricket enthusiasts, was an INR 23.75 crore bid for Venkatesh Iyer. With such a huge bid and letting go of title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer, KKR was expected to name Venkatesh as their new captain.
However, widely known for their shocking antics in the IPL, KKR came up with another surprise since they entrusted experience over age and identified veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane as the skipper.
Rahane has had stunning seasons in the IPL before, playing for both the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for most of his career. Venkatesh Iyer, on the other hand, has been appointed as Rahane’s deputy, that is, in the role of vice captain.
Earlier even Veky Iyer showed interest in KKR captaincy and said he was ready for any role; however, the KKR management trusted Rahane, the former Indian all-format cricketer who recently led Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy as well.
However, after being named the new skipper for KKR, Rahane claimed, “It’s an honor to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending our title.”

Kolkata Knight Riders were the champions of the previous season of the IPL and would kick off their campaign on the 22nd of March against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the much-anticipated IPL opener.
KKR star player Rinku Singh was seen donning the IPL jersey for 2025 after they revealed their updated jersey through an ad. KKR’s new jersey includes a special addition of 3 stars on the vest, which implies the 3 IPL trophies they have won in the history of the IPL.
