IPL 2023: Michael Bracewell Takes Over Will Jacks’ Spot for IPL 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore have hired New Zealand spin bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell to replace Will Jacks, who sustained an injury while touring with England in Bangladesh and will hence miss the upcoming IPL 2023. The news was announced by the Indian Premier League official twitter handle on March 18 at 12 PM.
Jacks suffered a muscle injury while playing for England in the second ODI against Bangladesh. The injury comes as a setback for Jack wills, as he was looking forward to trying his luck at the IPL so he could redeem his position in the England team for the world cup this year. A disappointed yet hopeful Jack tweeted “gutted, I’ll be back” after the announcement of his exit on March 15.
Interestingly, Bracewell, who went unsold, has been acquired at a base price of INR 1 Crore, replacing Will Jacks who had been one of RCB’s big buys at the IPL auction for 2023.
His performance at the India ODI series brought him to the limelight. Bracewell scored 188 runs at an impressive strike rate of 144.62 in the three-game ODI series, placing him second only to Shubman Gill in terms of total runs scored. All formats have seen him perform admirably for New Zealand.
The second Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is underway, and the all-rounder is playing a key role. He is now replaced by Rachin Ravindra.
Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach was all praise for Bracewell saying that it will be exciting to watch him play in the IPL for the first time. He went on to say that since the world cup is being held in India this year, it’s good that players get to experience the fields here.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have their first match against Mumbai Indians on April 2, 2023, at Bangalore’s home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium. With all eyes on Micheal Bracewell, RCB is all set to start the much-awaited IPL season 16 in full swing.
